Visual Basic 6 vs. Visual Basic .NET

To improve Visual Basic 6, Microsoft set out to make several simple changes:

  • • New runtime system
    • New development environment
    • New compiler
    • New forms package
    • New debugger

In the end the result was not a new version of Visual Basic but an entirely new product.  VB.NET is part of a brand new platform, based on the .NET Framework.  VB.NET is fully object-oriented. This is powerful improvement over previous version of Visual Basic 6.  Visual Basic 6 was considered good for desktop windows application. In VB.NET you can also develop web applications, distributed applications, create .NET windows and web controls and components, write windows and web services.
